Lift your head, peep the history.

We landed in Los Angeles, grabbed the cameras, and hit the ground running. We knew we had limited time and a tremendous amount of content to shoot. Showing up with a million dollars' worth of dreams on a ten-cent budget can make for a very busy schedule. As we were heading to grab a cup of coffee to wash down our bagel, I couldn’t help but think, “The West Coast is and always has been one of my favorite places to visit. There’s just something about it.” This led to the second thought of all the places that a set of cameras and a dream have taken us.

It seems all too often we get caught in the rat race of “put your head down and work,” trying our hardest to stay ahead of the curve and maintain that edge. The chase for the next thing and being so close to making it to the next goal can be relentless. Lord knows I’m likely the world’s worst at this in particular. HEAR ME, there will always be another goal to chase, always. What I am learning throughout this journey is that, while keeping your head down is a great way of getting a ton of work done quickly, it is also a great way of missing out on all the beautiful things in life, past and present.

Often I find myself reflecting on standing in an RV trailer by myself, hours and hours away from family and home. Thinking, dreaming, and praying for the day that we will be able to make a difference in this world. The same guy with a dream who stood there then stands here now, in the present, living those same thoughts, dreams, and prayers playing out before our very eyes. I recall praying so much; I knew He would answer because our God is a great God, but also because He would surely get tired of hearing from me! (That’s a poor dad joke.)

Taking the time to look at what you have gone through in life and the ways in which it has helped mold you is invaluable. It’s also the best way to appreciate where you are in life and a mood booster, if anything, on those rainy days. After all, we can’t appreciate the sunny days without the rainy ones, am I right or am I right?! On the days that you feel down, lift your head and peep the history. You’re 100/100 out of everything you’ve faced in your life up until this point. Keep going, but do it with a smile.

Love,

Dad
