The path of least resistance

In the Marine Corps, we were taught to NEVER take the path of least resistance. Why? You see, when in dangerous situations or traversing dangerous lands, the most common thing for people to do is take the route that seems the easiest. It’s literally hardwired in our human nature. The path has been trampled so much that the grass is now dirt and roots. The thorns on bushes have previously been broken off or stuck in the guy before you. Trees and bushes are no longer obstacles to avoid on your path. The same could be said about business and life. Hear me though, this does not apply to others helping you along your life’s journey.

If we take the same path as everyone else, do you truly expect a different outcome? I mean sure, maybe your personality will take you further, however, it won’t be a sight unseen once you’ve hit your destination. While life and business are more so about the journey and hardly the destination, ending up at an outlook over a beach rather than the city dump, would be pretty cool too.

When you are faced with crossroads in your life and you have the option, try your best to not allow yourself to take the path of least resistance. You will take longer getting there. It may or may not be more painful, You will most assuredly have doubts along the way, if what you are fighting for is worth it to you. You will feel, on some days and even weeks, as though you are fighting for every inch in an ever climbing and increasing altitude of struggles and obstacles. Just know, that it is ok. Flores’ never quit, we never give up!

I try to tell myself when the doubt starts settling, because Lord knows it does, “remember why you started”. Side step, I still to this day, have the original note I wrote myself when leaving for the Marine Corps, “remember why you started”. I knew it would be tough and likely one of the hardest things I’ve ever pursued to accomplish because I knew quitting was never an option. I was coming home in a pine box or a Marine, BUT most definitely not a quitter. Nothing easy is worth having and if it was easy then everyone would do it. Glory and honor are found within yourself and the greatest way to find it is to earn it. The path of least resistance will rob you of both.

Pride will come from the blood, sweat and tears that you will pour into what you’ve manifested with hardwork, dedication, sacrifice, persistence, and love. Love being the most important of all of these. Love for those you help, lead, serve, or support you, will be a large benefitting factor in your success. Lastly, put ALL of your hopes and worries in God. He will never forsake you or leave you. Enough of my rambles, until the next one!

Love,

Dad
